James Nail, a full-time machinist at JD Ott Company, was concerned about being able to afford a home for his family. He and his wife, Kasandra Laing, wanted to own a home in order to provide stability for their children, Alexia and Skyler.

“We went to apply for housing assistance, but were over-income because of my overtime, but we still could not afford to buy a house,” said James.

Around this time -  spring of 2007 - James’ grandmother and aunt made the decision to sell the family home. The house had been in the Nail family for over 60 years.

With Homestead purchase assistance grants, the James and Kasandra were able to purchase James' family home. “My kids love living in their grandma and aunt’s house,” said James, “They have this sense of security and are able to stay in the same school district.”
